Use Line 2 as a route, not one universal timetable
Shanghai Metro Line 2 connects Pudong Airport, central Shanghai and the Hongqiao transport hub. The station list above is the quickest way to match the English and Chinese name of your stop and see transfer lines. A first or last train time for one station or direction does not apply to the entire line. The old table on this article mixed station times, late-night services and fixed intervals without a current source; it has been withdrawn.
From Pudong Airport toward the city
Start by confirming that you are at the Line 2 airport station and that the platform destination fits your trip. Longyang Road is a useful interchange for other metro lines and the separate Maglev service; Lujiazui, Nanjing East Road and People's Square are central stops. A trip to a hotel may still require a line change, a different exit or a final road transfer. Use the full Line 2 route to identify your stop before buying a ticket.
Check the train destination displayed on the platform. Airport services and late-night service patterns can differ from a simple end-to-end map; do not assume every Line 2 train reaches every stop. If your flight lands late, confirm the last useful train for your boarding station, direction and onward connection, not just the station's opening hours.
From central Shanghai toward Hongqiao
Hongqiao Airport Terminal 2 and Hongqiao Railway Station are separate Line 2 stops. Check your flight terminal or train ticket before choosing the exit. A rail passenger should match the full railway station name on the ticket; an air passenger should allow time for the terminal walk and check-in. The station list above also shows central interchanges such as People's Square and Jing'an Temple, so you can plan the complete journey from your actual starting point.
For an early flight or a late arrival
- Choose the exact boarding and destination stations in the station list.
- Check the travel-day timetable and service notice on official Shanghai Metro.
- Confirm the direction and any platform change shown at the station.
- Leave a separate buffer for transfers, station exits, airport walking and airline or rail check-in.
- Keep a licensed taxi or ride-hailing backup if the last practical rail connection no longer fits.
Metro Line 2 and the Shanghai Maglev have different routes and tickets even where they meet at Longyang Road. Likewise, an Airport Link service is not simply another Line 2 train. Use the signs for the mode you intend to board rather than following a generic airport icon.
