Travel Planning Tips

Avoid rush hours: Weekdays 7:30-9:30 AM and 5:30-7:30 PM. Guangzhou metro is extremely crowded during these times, especially Lines 1 and 3.
Rainy season prep: April-September is Guangzhou's rainy season with frequent sudden downpours. Carry a compact umbrella, wear water-resistant shoes, and check weather forecasts.
Transport card: Purchase a Yang Cheng Tong card for discounts on metro and buses, usable for convenience store purchases too. Available at the airport or any metro station.
Dim Sum culture: Guangzhou locals love morning yum cha (dim sum). Tea houses are extremely busy 9-11 AM on weekends. Book 1-2 days ahead or arrive before 8 AM for authentic experience.
Heat protection: May-October is hot and humid. Use sunscreen, stay hydrated, and wear light, breathable clothing outdoors. Carry a light jacket for strong indoor air-conditioning.
Attraction clusters: Major sights are spread across Yuexiu (old town), Tianhe (modern district) and Liwan (traditional culture area). Plan your itinerary by district to minimize travel time.
