Which Chengdu railway station is on your ticket?
Chengdu East (成都东) and Chengdu South (成都南) are different stations; other Chengdu-area stations can also appear in a booking. Do not navigate to the closest “Chengdu railway station” from a map search. Open the completed order in Railway 12306 and match the complete departure station, arrival station, date and train number before planning the local transfer.
Save the Chinese station name and your hotel address offline. If your group is traveling on separate tickets, compare every person's station and train; a shared destination city does not prove the departure station or boarding gate is the same.
Before departure: from hotel to the correct station
After confirming the ticketed station, use the Chengdu metro station finder to identify a possible rail route and check the live station signs for the final exit. A subway journey can include a long platform-to-concourse walk and a separate railway security check. Allow a buffer that fits your luggage, travel day and passport verification; a single fixed “arrive 30 minutes early” rule is not reliable for every station.
If the metro route requires several changes or no longer fits the departure time, compare a licensed taxi or ride-hailing trip. Show the driver the full Chinese station name and check the vehicle destination before leaving the hotel. Do not use a pickup pin for Chengdu East when the order says Chengdu South.
At the station: identity, security and gate
Bring the same valid passport used to book the ticket and keep the completed order available offline. Follow the station's departure screens for your train number and waiting area. Passport and security checks, gate assignment and the boarding window are controlled by the railway and can change. If a machine cannot read your passport, ask station staff for the appropriate identity-check channel.
Railway 12306 says e-ticket travelers use the document linked to the booking; an itinerary sheet is not a boarding ticket. Check the official 12306 FAQ for current ticketing and identity rules instead of printing a paper ticket solely because an old travel blog says to do so.
On arrival: leave the right side of the station
When you arrive in Chengdu, confirm the actual arrival station before choosing a metro line, taxi queue or hotel pickup. Large rail hubs can have multiple exits and vehicle zones. Save the hotel pin in Chinese and share the exit or pickup point with anyone meeting you. For an onward airport or railway connection, verify the next station name separately; do not assume all transport hubs are adjacent.

- Local transfer source of truth: current metro signs, road conditions and the official station pickup instructions.
- Backup: a licensed road transfer if the last practical metro connection no longer works.
