Match the complete station name before planning the transfer
Chongqing North (重庆北), Chongqing West (重庆西), Chongqing East (重庆东) and Shapingba (沙坪坝) are separate railway stations. Chongqing Station (重庆站, also called Caiyuanba) is another name a traveler may encounter. The city's name alone is not a boarding location. Open the completed order in Railway 12306 and copy the exact Chinese departure and arrival station names, train number and date.

Older versions of this guide treated Chongqing East's projected opening as a current status. Train availability and station access must instead be checked for the actual date; a station's construction history cannot tell you where your ticket departs.
Choose the local journey after the ticket is confirmed
Enter the exact railway station into the Chongqing metro station finder, then check the operator's current route, station entrance and last practical connection on Chongqing Rail Transit. Chongqing's hills and large station complexes can add a substantial walk after the train or metro ride. Plan from your hotel door to the railway departure hall, allowing time for luggage, security and finding the correct platform.
For a late arrival or a route with difficult transfers, compare a licensed taxi or ride-hailing trip. Use the designated pickup shown at the station or in the app, verify the plate and show the driver the full Chinese destination. Fares and road times depend on the actual route and traffic; the former article's fixed prices, express-bus schedules and blanket metro closing time are not current promises.
At the station and on arrival
Bring the same valid passport used in the booking and keep the order accessible offline. Match the train number and date to the departure screen, then follow the current security, identity-check and gate instructions. If a self-service gate does not accept your document, ask staff which staffed channel to use. Railway 12306's official FAQ explains current e-ticket and identity rules; an itinerary sheet is not a boarding ticket.
On arrival, read the full station name again before choosing a metro line or vehicle pickup. A through journey may involve a different Chongqing station or an airport transfer, so verify every leg separately. Save the Chinese station name, hotel address and an offline screenshot of your booking before travel.
