Is PEK or PKX closer to central Beijing?

A practical PEK/PKX arrival plan
Confirm the airport and terminal first, then choose rail or road transport around your arrival time, luggage and hotel location—not a generic Beijing route.
1. Confirm PEK or PKX before leaving the terminal
PEK and PKX are different airports with different express lines and pickup areas. Match the airport code, terminal and hotel address shown in your booking before following a rail or vehicle sign.
- Keep the hotel name, address and phone number in Chinese in an offline screenshot.
- Do not tell a driver only “Beijing airport”; say PEK or PKX and the terminal when known.
2. Choose the airport express, taxi or ride-hailing
PEK connects toward Dongzhimen on the Capital Airport Express, while PKX connects toward Caoqiao on the Daxing Airport Express. Check the official service status and last train for your arrival date before relying on either rail option.
- Rail is often easier to budget for during daytime, but a transfer at the city end may still be needed.
- With heavy luggage or a late arrival, compare the licensed taxi queue and the designated ride-hailing pickup shown in the app.
3. Finish the transfer at the hotel
At Dongzhimen, Caoqiao or another interchange, confirm the correct exit and the final walk in your map app. Keep a backup plan if the last train, weather or luggage makes the original connection impractical.
- Save the final destination in Chinese before leaving airport Wi-Fi.
- Verify the vehicle plate and official pickup area before boarding a taxi or ride-hailing car.
