Follow Wukang Road into Anfu Road
This is a neighborhood walk through public streets, not a ticketed attraction with one entrance. Start from Jiaotong University station (交通大学站), follow your map toward Wukang Mansion (武康大楼) at the Wukang Road and Huaihai Middle Road junction, walk north along Wukang Road (武康路), then turn onto Anfu Road (安福路). Continue toward the Shanghai Dramatic Arts Centre area and, if it suits your route, finish near Changshu Road station (常熟路站). Open the walking map above before you leave mobile coverage; station exits and pedestrian access can change.
Wukang Mansion is best treated as an exterior architecture stop. It is a residential building, so do not plan to enter it or block doorways for a photograph. The nearby intersection can be crowded: use the public pavement and crossing, leave space for residents and cyclists, and keep the photo stop brief. The interest of the walk is the streetscape as a whole, not a requirement to queue for one picture.
Make the route fit your visit
Wukang Road has historic residential architecture, street trees and small shops. Walk it in order rather than bouncing between map pins; look at building exteriors from public space and choose cafés or galleries only when they are open and appeal to you. On Anfu Road, the mix of shops and cultural venues changes over time. The Shanghai Dramatic Arts Centre is a useful landmark, but a performance or exhibition requires its own current schedule and ticket—not a promise from this walking guide.
If you have limited time, do the Wukang Mansion–Wukang Road portion and turn back or leave by the nearest suitable metro station. If the area is busy, rainy or uncomfortable for your group, shorten the route rather than trying to complete a fixed “one-day itinerary.” Walking on public streets is free; admission, reservations and hours apply only to individual venues. Check those directly with the venue before making it the reason for your visit.
How to get there and leave
Use the Shanghai metro guide to look up Jiaotong University and Changshu Road stations, then check the live route and exit in your map app. A start and finish at different stations avoids retracing the whole walk, but you can reverse the route if that fits your hotel better. Save 武康大楼, 武康路, 安福路 and 常熟路站 in Chinese for navigation or a taxi driver. Do not rely on a fixed taxi fare, a particular exit or a universal walking duration.
The former article gave exact opening hours and ticket prices for individual buildings and performances. Those can change independently of the street route and have been removed. This guide was reviewed for route usefulness on 9 October 2026; verify venue access and any temporary pedestrian controls on the day you go.
